Titans Bull Sharks and Hammerhead Sharks:
Success at Provincials
Submitted by Camelita Olivotto
The Bull Sharks and Hammerhead Sharks traveled to London, Ontario this
past weekend for the 16U Men's Provincial championships. The two AA Titans
teams faced some strong rivals in the group of ten teams, among them a
number of AAA teams, including Titans own Tiger Sharks!
Bull Sharks: In the opening game, the Bull Sharks
challenged the York Mavericks B team for a berth in either the A pool or B
pool for the Cadet Men's Provincials championships. Andrew Diperna led the
scoring with 7 goals, Corbin Tremblay added 4 to the total while Simon
Mills rounded things off with an additional 2. The win moved the team into
the A pool and tough battles against the four top teams, including our own
Tiger Sharks.
Andrew scored the two goals in the second game against York, and he,
Corbin Tremblay, Dusan Boskovic and Campbell Osler all managed to break
through the strong Scarborough defense to score in game three. To add a
little spice to game four, in which the Bull Sharks were up against the
Tiger Sharks, at the last minute coaches Nick Forster and Pierre Fiset
switched teams and really challenged the performance of the two teams!! In
the final match up, Campbell and Corbin scored one and two goals
respectively. All ten players demonstrated determination and the hard work
they have put into training showed in their performance. Congratulations
to all the Bull Sharks and special congratulations to Dusan Boskovic and
MacKenzie Ricketts for being named to the Tournament All-star team!
Hammerhead Sharks: On Friday evening the Hammerhead Sharks
lost to Scarborough which moved them into the B pool for the tournament.
Over the course of the next two days, the team won three of their four
games and only lost the fourth game by one point. The final score in game
two against York B was 11 to 1, with Sebastian Dragnea, Jesse Norton,
Aidan Robern and Colin Anderson all contributing goals. Although the team
lost game three 5 to 6, goalie Ian Stonebridge blocked 23 shots on goal
while Ryan Ing, Ben Paterson and Greg Dodd contributed the goals. Final
score of game four against London was 10 to 3, during which Colin
Anderson, Ryan Ing made three goals each, Alex Prescott scored two and
Jesse Norton and Ben Paterson made one each. The team finished off the
tournament with a resounding victory in game five in which Ben, Alex,
Ryan, Colin, Sebastian, Greg, Jesse and Alek Krsmanovic all made it onto
the scoreboard. The hard work and strong performance resulted in the
Hammerheads placing second in the B pool. Congratulations to all ten
players!
Both teams enjoyed the experience of participating in Provincials and
rounded off the weekend with a quick trip to Dollarama for noise makers
then proceeded to raise the roof of the sports complex in cheering on the
Tiger Sharks during their Gold medal performance. Thanks very much to
coaches Nick Forster and Tristan Nuyens for all the support and
encouragement.

The Tiger Sharks had a great week-end, winning all their games including
the gold medal game on Sunday. Congratulations to the team, to Lyle Brooks
for being named to the All-star team and Tournament MVP, to Ogi Gutovic
for also being named to the Tournament All-star team and an honourable
mention for both goalies for their strong performance.
The team had an easy game against London Friday evening blanking them 23 -
0, advancing to the A-side to face Hamilton, York and Scarborough
Saturday. They first met Hamilton winning 11 - 4, then met York which
proved more challenging with a score of 4 - 2 in the first half and
winning 7 - 2. Our very strong defense kept Dusan in check when we met
Scarborough, where he scored their only goal on a 5-meter penalty shot.
The Tiger Sharks won the game 9 - 1. We then played the Bull Sharks on
Sunday, winning 16 - 0.
We met the York Mavericks in the Gold Medal game, and it proved very
challenging. After taking a 4 - 1 lead early in the third quarter, the
quarter ended with a 4 - 3 score and with approximately one and a half
minute left Scarborough tied the game at 4 all. The team did well under
adversity and scored a fifth goal with one minute left in the game.
Ogi was the top scorer with David T., Alec, and James tied for second
place. Our defensive game was also very good in support of the
goaltenders.
Again, thanks to the players, the coaching staff and the chaperones for
the great week-end.
