Titans Water Polo Weekly Newsletter
August
20th, 2008
Competitive
Registration
Competitive Registration information will be available very soon. Watch for a
special edition of E-News (in the next week) with details. NEW this year-
registration material will not be mailed out to families this year. We will
post information on the website and direct you there as soon as it's ready. If
anyone really needs a package mailed to them, we can accommodate, but would
prefer for you to access the material and print forms yourselves. This will
save postage costs, not to mention the time spent by our Registrar printing
and compiling paper for the actual mailout. We hope that families can stop by
the Open House on September 6 to drop off their
packages.
NEW Titans Calendar is now live
If you have visited the Titans website recently, you will notice that we have
a new Calendar in place. At first it appeared as a 'trial' version, and it is
now active and we will no longer be updating the old Calendar (although you
will see a link to the old version if you want to check out old dates/
archives). We have chosen to go with the Google calendar. The version that is
posted on the website is a 'read-only' version for players. All changes are
posted by General Manager Deanna Barry, and if you see any errors or
omissions, you should e-mail Deanna at
INFO@titanswaterpolo.ca.
All team practices will be posted on the
website under the team names, and cancellations will be noted as we are made
aware of them. It will be YOUR responsibility to check frequently for changes
to your team schedule. We will do our best to ensure that changes are posted
prior to the start of each week (i.e. Monday), but on occasion we learn of
cancellations or changes and need to update these last-minute. When this
happens, we will do our best to get the word out via Team Managers.
Practice dates and times are being
inputted over the next week, so if you don't see your team practices listed
yet, don't panic, they are coming soon! Do check out some of the nice features
of the Google calendar, such as the ability to choose only your team schedule,
as well as option to choose by day, week or month.
You can filter the information on the
website calendar to show only the groups you are interested in two ways.
You can use the buttons/tabs at the top of the calendar to display only one
group (e.g. view only the Swordfish)
or you can use the drop down menu (shown when you click on the down arrow to
the right of the word "Agenda") to select and view multiple groups (e.g. view
Swordfish and NDC only).
General Club information
(fundraisers, meetings, Board meetings, events of interest) are in a brown
font and are shown when you choose any button at the top of the calendar.
Another nice option for Google users is you can add specific calendars from
the Titans website calendar (e.g. Swordfish) to your own personal Google
calendar by clicking on the "+ Google Calendar" button in the lower right.
Our webmasters will be 'tweaking' the
Calendar to improve it as we start to use it and as we learn more about it.
And do be patient. There is a
learning curve for the program administrators as well!
Ontario Summer
Games
Submitted by Sue Sidebottom
Congratulations to all athletes who participated last week in the Ontario Summer
Games! This year the athletes were divided into teams (zones), mixing
athletes from the different Ontario clubs together on one team. Balanced
teams were put together, making games in the tournament very close and exciting
to watch! The athletes were housed at the residence at Carleton
University, with most athletes sharing rooms with athletes from other
clubs. It was a great opportunity for the athletes to get to know and work
with athletes from other clubs and I'm sure many new friendships were
made. Special congratulations go out to Nathalie Gallant
and David Lapins who were named MVPs of the tournament, and to
all the athletes who made the all-star team. Photos of the Gold Medal
teams, all-star teams and MVPs can be seen on the OWPA home page at

Team Ontario Women's
Report
Christi Bardecki, one of the coaches for the Women's Team Ontario, has written
up a nice report posted on the OWPA website. To see her full report, click

Water Polo Stories in the
Media
Thanks to Carolyn McGill for searching out and providing our community with
ongoing links to water polo news in the media. Here's some news pieces
that Carolyn has found in the past week:
It's been great to see water polo get sustained media attention in Canada during
the Olympics. The Star's online edition has had something daily, even on days
when there are no games. Search "water polo" at:
http://www.thestar.com/
The Globe and Mail did a real water polo splash out, for them: They gave a full
half a page to a photo and some pretty good coverage of the Canada vs Australia
game titled: Now That's Water Polo

Radio-Canada's "On Demand" section has a number of complete water polo games
that can be viewed and even downloaded and saved.
