Laval Tournament, Dec 7-9, 2007
Submitted by Sharon Lapins
On the weekend of December 7-9th, the Titans sent two
boys' and two girls' teams to the Laval Tournament being held at
College Laval in the Montreal suburb. With Carmelita
Olivotto by my side to plan trip details, as well as Deanna Barry
working behind the scenes with us, the trip was quite a success
considering all of the logistics involved when sending that many
athletes/coaches/chaperones on two buses anywhere!
For some of our athletes, this was the first tournament
they had ever been to! I was impressed by many of our more
experienced female athletes who took the younger girls under their
wings and helped them to remain calm when some nerves
were evident. All of our opponents were from Quebec which
gives us a sense of the level of competition.....tough.
The focus of this tournament was to give all of the
athletes equal play-time, an opportunity to work on skills as well as
to gauge their fitness before going into the Team Training phase after
the Christmas season. Under the leadership of coaches Kasia
Hart, Alison Poirier and Alexis Geroux on the girls side, our Ottawa 1
and 2 teams played with energy and supported each other throughout
each game. Results were not the focus of this tournament
but we would all like to congratulate Ottawa 1 Girls for their Bronze
medal win!
Pierre Fiset, Nick Forster and Tristan Nuyens coached the
Ottawa 1 and 2 boys teams. Ottawa 2 included some Junior-aged
athletes so this team participated under the "exhibition"
status meaning they did not qualify for any medals even though they
won every game. Both of our boys teams played with intensity and
passion over the weekend and it was a pleasure to watch them
compete!
Thanks to our chaperones, Pierre Prescott, Kresimir
Kusevic and Joe Luciano, as well as to our coaches for all of
their help in making things run smoothly. Always
appreciated!
Our best wishes go out to Anita Luciano who was unable to
chaperone as planned so that she could travel to be with her very ill
father. We were thinking of you, Anita, and sending you and your
dad our thoughts and prayers.
GO TITANS!
