Attention ACADEMY parents: We Urgently Need Two Key Volunteer

We will be hosting the annual Titans Cup on January 30-February 1 at Nepean
Sportsplex Pool. ALL of our Academy and some of our ILWP players will be
participating. We require a Volunteer Coordinator (to schedule
parents into the minor officials roles for each game, using a spreadsheet
template that we have) and an Advertising Coordinator (to coordinate
sales of ads for the tournament booklet and to receive ads secured by
parents). If you are able to take one of these jobs on, could you please
contact Tournament Chair Colin Kelly (taking over from Sarah) at
colin.kelly@alcatel-lucent.com
and copy General Manager Deanna Barry at
INFO@titanswaterpolo.ca.
Please help out!
Manta Rays Welcome Coach Scott Caswell!
Please welcome Scott Caswell as the newest addition to the Titans community of
coaches. Scott will be working with the Manta Rays on a regular basis,
effective immediately. Scott, from Montreal, is a former national champion
with the DDO club. He currently plays with the Gee Gees and has had some
coaching duties with them the last two years. Scott, welcome aboard!
Information
on Use of Protein Supplements for Athletes
We are aware of discussions happening amongst our competitive athletes regarding
the use of protein supplements. The Club will not be taking a position on this,
however the Coaching Association of Canada is working on a position and we will
provide details to you once it is in place. For the moment, we would ask the
athletes and their families to make INFORMED decisions on the use of
supplements. You should get all the information you can, before making a
decision. You could discuss with your family physician or with a Registered
Dietitian if you have further questions (not that a nutritionist does NOT have
the certification and training that a Registered Dietitian does in Canada). It's
a very controversial subject these days!
We've done some research on your behalf with some of the more credible
organizations (Federal Government, Coaching Association of Canada as well as
their link to Dietitians of Canada, Peak Performance here in Ottawa- Beth
Mansfield is the dietitian for many of our national sports teams, Canadian
health units and universities, etc). We've stayed away from organizations or
websites promoting their own product. Links to some articles are now available
on our website
www.titanswaterpolo.ca
under Athlete Resources.
Wanted: writers and creative thinkers!
As part of the Titans' upcoming 25th
anniversary, we are looking for athletes or family members who would be
interested in helping us publicize water polo and
showcase the Titans' successes. If you are interested
in helping out, by writing articles, interviewing athletes or
coaching staff, or working on other communications material, please send an
email to Rennie Marcoux at
nicnat3@sympatico.ca
Where
the Titans are at this weekend!
We have three Academy teams participating in the Hull Bantam Tournament this
weekend. Also the Piranhas and Swordfish are travelling to Montreal to
participate in the DDO Invitational Tournament. Best of luck to all
teams! We'd love to hear from you after the weekend with writeups and / or
photos of your weekend to share with our Titans community!
