Swim Program Announcement for Titans Competitive Athletes (Academy, AA and AAA)

Titans athletes have the opportunity to participate in a swim program offered by ROCS (Ravens of Carleton Swimming) swim club. We partnered with this Club two years ago and the participants were provided with a high quality program by certified swim coaches.

-Wednesday mornings, 6-7:30am (note this is MORNING and not evening), at Carleton University Pool, starting October 8 and ending April 15, inclusive (no swim practice on December 24, December 31 or March 18). Note that parking is free at Carleton only until 7am.
- Cost is $328.13 (including GST), payable to ROCS. Cheque should be brought to the first swim practice.
- To register, go to www.rocs.ca and look for a group called Water Polo, which should give you instructions and a registration form. If you do not see this group posted, simply e-mail rocswimming@gmail.com and let them know your full name and birth year.
- Dates have been added to Titans Google Calendar on the website.

Competitive Program Tournament Planning and Protocol

Titans competitive coaches are currently working with Team Managers to put together a list of proposed tournaments for each team. These lists will be presented to parents, either at a team meeting or by e-mail from the Team Manager, and will include estimated costs for each event. Parents will be asked to 'buy in' to the lists either at the meeting, or by e-mail response. Once the list is firm, then unless indicated early on, it is expected that all players on the team will attend, and that team managers can assume they can proceed with planning the events with this in mind. In the Club registration package, it was made quite clear which teams are obligated to go to Provincial and/ or National championships. By signing up with your particular team, you have also agreed to attend the events outlined. Other 'optional' events will be agreed on by the team as a whole.

Team Managers have the choice of planning and chaperoning each of their team's tournaments themselves, OR of delegating to another parent on a trip-by-trip basis. Some Managers may choose to do the trip planning only and to find someone else to chaperone. It's their job to ensure that it happens, not necessarily to do it themselves. Please expect your Team Manager to contact you about helping out! If we do not have chaperones step up for a particular event, then the team will not travel. We are a volunteer organization and depend on families to help out. It's as simple as that.

In terms of budgeting, Team Managers are required to use a spreadsheet that is posted on the website under Admin. There is actually a Titans Tournament Budgeting Policy in place, that can be found here: http://www.titanswaterpolo.ca/docs/Admin/TournamentBudgetingPolicy200809.pdf. Parents should familiarize themselves with this, as it will answer many questions that come up through the year. ALL tournament budgets are signed off by the General Manager prior to player fees being announced and cheques collected. Once the tournament is complete, the Manager submits a reconciliation to the General Manager, as well as cheques from players. Because there is often personal information on the budget planning spreadsheets for specific events, this information is not made available to parents or posted on the website. If you do have a question/ concern about a budget or fees for a particular event, you should contact General Manager Deanna Barry at INFO@titanswaterpolo.ca.

When making a payment for tournaments of programs, we accept cheque or money order ONLY please. Cheques are safer for team managers to carry around. In the (unlikely) event that payment is misplaced or lost, a cheque is obviously much easier to replace. When we are provided with cash, then one of us has to convert that cash to a cheque from our own account, which is not fair. We'll make an effort to get cheques cashed in a timely manner. Please help out and provide only cheques or money orders for payment for events.  All are payable to Titans Water Polo.

Team Managers work hard to find the best deals for travel and accommodation, and we share information on the better places to stay and the bus companies we prefer to work with. Sometimes availability is limited, though, and we are not able to get rooms or transportation at our first choice, which may mean the second choice is a more expensive one. Your Team Manager is also a parent, so it is in their best interest to keep player fees low. Also remember that they are volunteers, and are doing this on their own time, so that our kids can enjoy the competitive experience!
